About Us

workpic2Michelucci & Associates, geotechnical consultants, has completed more than 6000 projects since the firm was organized in 1988. The majority of our projects have been in Northern and Central California, however, we have performed investigations in the Sierra Nevada Mountains, and Southern California.

Our headquarters are located in Burlingame, California, about 10 miles south of downtown San Francisco.

Our firm has been involved in the exploration of sites for lightweight residential structures, commercial and industrial buildings, retaining walls, roadways, earth dams, and virtually all types of construction.

We also have extensive forensic experience. Over the years we have investigated structures affected by expansive soil, ground settlement and lateral soil creep. We have explored sites affected by major landslides, earthquake-induced liquefaction, and other geotechnical problems.

Our philosophy is simple. Offer the client high quality, yet cost- and time-conscious, technically accurate consultation. Our written reports are professionally concise and easy to understand for both the client, and design professional. Our firm is a member of the Association of Engineering Firms practicing in the Geosciences (ASFE) and our professionals are members of the American Society of Civil Engineers, the Association of Engineering Geologists, and other professional and technical groups.

Burlingame

Our headquarters are located in the city of Burlingame, about 10 miles south of San Francisco, California. With easy access to nearby highways and bridges, our personnel can travel to virtually any point in the greater San Francisco Bay Area within 45 minutes.

The geologic conditions in the Bay Area vary considerately. Soft compressive sedimentary deposits known locally as San Franciscan "Bay Mud" occur near current and historic shorelines and within the bay and its associated drainage-ways. Many of the valley areas are mantled with expansive soils and our hillsides are composed of countless bedrock types that vary in strength. Identification of the engineering properties of these materials is crucial, and our experience is a valuable tool.

Ideal, or easily developable sites are rare in the Bay Area, and most new project sites are located in "challenging" geologic areas where experience and innovation are crucial.

Our Burlingame office is located in the virtual center of the Bay Area. We would be pleased to provide you with a proposal for future challenging projects.

Santa Rosa

Since 1996, our firm has successfully completed over 1000 projects in Sonoma, Marin, Mendocino, Lake, Napa, and Solano counties.

The Northbay is characterized by complex geology and seismic activity. Valley areas typically are mantled with expansive clay soil or weak, compressible sediments. Hillsides are often composed of weak, fractured and sheared rock and soil that is susceptible to landsliding. Rainfall totals are higher in the Northbay region than other parts of the Bay Area, which increases landslide risks.

We have completed geotechnical investigations for a mixture of projects from both the public and private sectors.

We enjoy a reputation for quality engineering combined with a track record of providing practical, efficient solutions to geotechnical design and construction challenges.

  • I have worked with Joe on projects for over 25 years. I have a lot of respect for his knowledge, professionalism and creative problem solving with challenging soil conditions. I consider him an expert in dealing with expansive clay soils found in Woodside, Atherton and Menlo Park areas.
